Gary Garner, world traveler and author of the new book Through the Eyes of Madness, was at the top of the corporate food chain. He was the president, CEO and owner of several Seattle-based firms, and he had everything that money could buy-but that didn't seem to satisfy him.
In a spontaneous act, Mr. Garner abandoned all of his worldly possessions and became focused on touring the world as a penniless pauper. "I just quit my job and embarked on a global journey with nothing more than my backpack," he says. "And I never looked back."
Mr. Garner's new book, a modern adventure tale illustrated with scores of photos and drawings, was born out of a life-changing moment when the author/adventurer lost the women of his dreams and was driven to madness.
"I realized that the fortunes I'd worked so hard for were merely an illusion, and I knew that there was a greater meaning to life than having lavish surroundings and material belongings," he now says.
